Vice Matron – Nursing Leadership Role

About the role

The Vice Matron is a full‑time, on‑site leadership position at Teklehaimanot General Hospital in Addis Ababa. Reporting to the Matron, the role supports the delivery of high‑quality nursing services, ensures compliance with hospital policies, and promotes a culture of safety, compassion, and accountability.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise nursing teams and coordinate staffing and shift schedules.
• Monitor patient care practices to maintain clinical standards.
• Collaborate with medical and administrative staff to improve workflows and implement quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Develop and roll out nursing protocols, training programs, and continuous professional development plans.
• Mentor nursing personnel and address escalated patient or family concerns.
• Contribute to strategic planning for nursing services and resource allocation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a Master’s degree (mandatory) with valid professional registration.
• Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience in a general hospital, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or charge‑nurse role.
• Strong leadership, team‑coordination, and performance‑management abilities.
• Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and evidence‑based practice.
• Ability to work full‑time on‑site in Addis Ababa and adapt to a multidisciplinary environment.
