WASH and Shelter Project Manager - Gonder

About the role

NRC Ethiopia is seeking an experienced, results-driven WASH and Shelter Project Manager for its Gonder Area Office. The role leads the design, implementation, monitoring and delivery of WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) and shelter interventions for crisis-affected communities, with strong financial oversight and accountability.

The position is open to Ethiopian nationals only, based in Gonder on a 12-month contract, with travel of up to 80%.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the project cycle from needs assessments and response design through proposal development, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and reporting.
• Ensure interventions meet high standards of quality, safety, appropriateness and sustainability.
• Manage and mentor project teams, strengthen staff capacity and foster community engagement and participation.
• Work with authorities, donors, partners and humanitarian coordination platforms on resource mobilization and programme development.
• Integrate protection principles, gender, age and disability inclusion, environmental sustainability and disaster risk reduction into WASH and shelter responses.
• Assess needs, develop concept notes and project proposals, manage budgets and provide technical guidance.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years' experience in a senior-level project implementation role, preferably in a humanitarian or recovery context.
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, water resources, hydraulic, environmental, water supply and sanitation or construction engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Experience in complex and volatile contexts, shelter and WASH programming in a refugee context, and donor engagement.
• Fluency in English, written and spoken.
• Knowledge of the WASH and shelter sectors and their stakeholders in Ethiopia.

• Strong communication, analytical and project management skills.
