WASH Officer – Safe Learning Project

About the role

The WASH Officer will support ChildFund’s Safe Learning Project by ensuring safe, healthy and child‑friendly learning environments in schools and surrounding communities in Adigrat, Tigray. The role works closely with water supply, education, health and community stakeholders to improve access to water, sanitation facilities and hygiene practices.

Key responsibilities

• Lead implementation of WASH activities in line with project plans, donor requirements and national standards.
• Coordinate design, bid preparation, construction/rehabilitation and maintenance of WASH infrastructure in schools and communities.
• Promote hygiene, behavior change and community engagement.
• Develop and manage partnerships with local authorities, NGOs and other stakeholders.
• Monitor, evaluate, report on WASH outcomes and ensure accountability and learning.
• Apply safeguarding and risk‑management procedures to protect children and staff.

Required profile

• Relevant education and experience in WASH, water supply, sanitation or related fields.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and monitor WASH projects.
• Experience working with gender‑sensitive and disability‑inclusive facilities.
• Understanding of donor compliance and national WASH standards.
