Workshop Machinist – Mining Project (Ethiopia)

About the role

Mota-Engil is looking for an experienced workshop machinist to support mining operations at the Kurmuk Gold Mine in the Benishangul‑Gumuz region. The successful candidate will operate manual lathe and drill machines, ensuring high‑quality machining of components required for the project.

Key responsibilities

• Operate manual lathe and drill machines for turning, internal and external thread cutting, and boring.
• Interpret mechanical drawings and select appropriate tooling and materials for each job.
• Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, and other gauges.
• Plan and allocate work, coordinate with workshop and fleet supervisors, and meet scheduled deadlines.
• Maintain and clean machines, complete weekly inspection checklists, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental protocols.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 years of hands‑on experience with manual lathe operation.
• Diploma in workshop machining or a related technical field.
• Fluent English for technical reporting and verbal communication.
• Ability to work in a remote, high‑pressure mining environment.
• High integrity, attention to detail, and strong professional ethics.
