Economic Recovery Specialist – Financial Inclusion & Market Systems

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council seeks an Economic Recovery Specialist to lead the design and implementation of market‑oriented, protection‑sensitive, and climate‑resilient economic pathways for migrants, returnees, transit populations, at‑risk youth and other vulnerable groups in Ethiopia.

Key responsibilities

• Design and continuously refine socioeconomic and skills‑profiling tools and the individualized economic pathway methodology used across Migration Resource Centres, transit hubs and return locations.
• Establish technical standards and quality‑assurance mechanisms for economic counselling and pathway selection, ensuring alignment with participants’ capacities, aspirations, documentation status, protection considerations and actual labour‑market demand.
• Lead the development of differentiated pathways covering employment, apprenticeships, enterprise development, self‑employment, financial services and skills development.
• Maintain a dynamic, route‑based mapping of livelihood and employment opportunities to inform programme design.
• Strengthen relationships with employers and market actors to ensure DRC support contributes to sustainable market systems rather than parallel services.
• Collaborate with Protection, MEAL, Programme Management and Economic Recovery officers to integrate local and regular labour‑mobility pathways where appropriate.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with extensive experience in market systems development and economic pathway design.
• Demonstrated expertise working with migrant, returnee and vulnerable populations in humanitarian contexts.
• Strong understanding of protection‑sensitive and climate‑resilient livelihood approaches.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and coordinate across multi‑disciplinary programmes.
