Environment & Health Data Scientist – Lead Poisoning Prevention

About the role

Vital Strategies is seeking an Environment & Health Data Scientist to lead data‑driven efforts for its Lead Poisoning Prevention Program in Ethiopia and other low‑ and middle‑income countries. The specialist will design and support integrated data platforms that combine health, environmental, and demographic information to guide public‑health planning and policy.

Key responsibilities

• Develop tools to identify, inventory, and map health and environmental data systems across ministries and sectors.
• Assist country teams in building data platforms, selecting appropriate hosting solutions, and aligning diverse datasets.
• Analyze, visualize, and automate data workflows to assess childhood lead exposure risk.
• Provide technical oversight for local contractors and consultants managing data systems.
• Facilitate data sharing and integration between global teams, governments, and partners.

Required profile

• Experience working with public‑health or environmental data in international settings.
• Strong understanding of data integration, management, and visualization concepts.
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and government stakeholders.
