Field Coordinator – Community Eye Health

About the role

The Field Coordinator will lead the implementation of eye‑care services aimed at eliminating blinding trachoma, cataract and refractive errors across several zones in Southern Ethiopia. Based in Arba Minch, the role involves frequent travel to health facilities, schools and community sites to ensure high‑quality service delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Integrated Eye Care Workers, Health Extension Workers, and health institutions to plan, implement and monitor trainings, SAFE strategy activities, cataract surgeries and refractive error services.
• Work with teachers and education offices to roll out school eye‑care programmes, including vision testing and follow‑up.
• Facilitate coordination between zonal, woreda and health facilities and Orbis International‑Ethiopia.
• Lead community and school eye‑screening campaigns and supervise primary eye‑care activities at field level.
• Prepare annual eyeglasses procurement plans, oversee distribution, and conduct refraction and eyeglass prescription.
• Coordinate post‑cataract surgery outcome assessments and eyeglass compliance monitoring.
• Organise trainings on refraction for teachers, IECWs, health workers and optical technicians.
• Collect, compile and submit monthly, quarterly and annual activity reports and assist in preparing detailed annual work plans.
• Participate in mid‑term and final project evaluations, sector planning meetings and manage petty‑cash disbursements.

Required profile

• Proven experience working with eye‑care teams, health offices and education stakeholders in a field setting.
• Ability to supervise and guide primary eye‑care providers and conduct community outreach.
• Strong reporting skills and experience preparing activity plans and procurement schedules.
• Willingness to travel frequently across remote zones.
