Finance Assistant - Dessie

About the role

The Finance Assistant will support the Save the Children International Semera Field office in Dessie by processing payments, handling cash, and ensuring compliance with the organisation's financial procedures. The role may require flexible working hours during humanitarian emergencies.

Key responsibilities

• Effect payments and collect cash on behalf of the field office following standard procedures.
• Verify that all payments are supported by complete, approved documentation and bear the “Save the Children Paid” stamp.
• Collect and settle program advances, ensuring timely reimbursement and proper documentation.
• Deduct government withholding tax where applicable and return unused cash to the SCI bank account daily.
• Facilitate travel advances for staff based outside the procurement office.
• Maintain accurate filing, scanning, and uploading of financial documents to the SCI Document Archiving System.
• Record daily transactions in the GLACOS accounting system and use pre‑numbered cash receipt and payment vouchers.

Required profile

• Ability to handle cash and financial documents securely and accurately.
• Willingness to work outside normal hours during major emergencies.
• Understanding of child safeguarding level 2 requirements.
• Attention to detail and compliance with SCI financial policies.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the GLACOS finance software.
