Gender and Safeguarding Officer

About the role

The Gender and Safeguarding Officer will lead day‑to‑day implementation and monitoring of gender equality, social inclusion and safeguarding activities at project level for SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia. The role provides technical guidance to youth participants, host institutions and field staff to ensure programmes are inclusive, safe and responsive to the needs of young women, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

Key responsibilities

• Implement gender equality, social inclusion and safeguarding activities in assigned projects.
• Provide direct support and technical guidance to youth, host institutions and field staff.
• Identify, assess and mitigate safeguarding risks.
• Build local capacity on safeguarding and gender‑responsive approaches.
• Manage reporting, response and follow‑up of safeguarding concerns.
• Map and link at‑risk youth and survivors to available services.
• Coordinate with governmental and non‑governmental partners in the project area.
• Ensure compliance with SOS Child & Youth Safeguarding Policy, Code of Conduct and anti‑misconduct regulations.
• Support monitoring and evaluation of gender and safeguarding components.

Required profile

• University degree in gender studies, social sciences, international development or a related field.
• Proven experience in gender equality, social inclusion and child safeguarding within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Experience working with youth, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
• Familiarity with the Ethiopian context and local service providers.
• Strong analytical and reporting abilities.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with partners, government agencies and community stakeholders.
