Government Relations Advisor, Africa

About the role

The Government Relations Advisor for Africa will support Vital Strategies’ Lead Poisoning Prevention Program by fostering high‑level engagement with government partners across multiple African countries. Based preferably in Ethiopia, the role will coordinate regional exchanges, align program activities with national priorities, and represent the organization at key events.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with ministries of health, environmental agencies and other governmental stakeholders.
• Facilitate regional knowledge‑exchange meetings and coordinate joint activities among country teams.
• Support country teams in government engagement, partnership building and policy dialogue.
• Provide regular updates on implementation progress to both internal and external partners.
• Represent Vital Strategies at regional conferences, workshops and policy forums.
• Assist in the development of strategic plans that align with national health and environmental objectives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in government relations or public‑sector partnership building, preferably in the public‑health sector.
• Familiarity with health‑policy processes in low‑ and middle‑income African contexts.
• Strong ability to work collaboratively with multi‑country teams and external partners.
• Excellent communication and diplomatic skills.
• Willingness to be based in Ethiopia and travel within the region as needed.
