Graphic Design Assistant (Publications & Conference Management)

About the role

The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is seeking a Graphic Design Assistant to support its Publications & Conference Management Section. Working under the supervision of senior staff, you will contribute to the visual communication of UN‑sponsored events, reports, and campaigns across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in client meetings to define design objectives, media, technical specifications, costs and schedules.
• Undertake independent design assignments for conferences, observances, events and campaigns, producing concepts, photographic or illustrative solutions.
• Create infographics and data visualisations that translate complex information into clear, engaging graphics.
• Prepare approved designs in electronic format, review colour and print proofs, and ensure final production quality.
• Coordinate with clients, copy‑proofreaders, production staff, library and cartography teams to keep projects on schedule.
• Assist in data collection, analysis and the preparation of presentations, reports and web‑page or brochure updates.
• Perform other related tasks as required.

Required profile

• Works under the general supervision of the Chief of Publications Unit and the direct supervision of the Publishing Officer.
• Demonstrates professionalism and knowledge of standard industry practices.
