International Consultant, Women Peace and Security

About the role

The International Consultant, Women Peace and Security (WPS) will support UN Women Ethiopia in operationalising the Humanitarian‑Development‑Peace nexus and implementing the forthcoming National Action Plan for UNSCR 1325. Reporting to the Deputy Country Representative, the consultant will lead the planning, implementation and management of WPS interventions across federal and regional levels.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop programme strategies and annual workplans for the WPS portfolio.
• Provide strategic guidance and ensure coherence of WPS programming with national peacebuilding priorities and the UN Women Global Strategic Plan.
• Lead or contribute to conflict and gender analyses to inform programme design and risk mitigation.
• Coordinate day‑to‑day administration of the WPS project, including resource mobilisation and alignment with governance, humanitarian and development programmes.
• Collaborate with UN agencies, government officials, donors and civil‑society partners to ensure effective implementation.
• Offer technical advice to UN, government and CSO partners on women, peace and security issues.

Required profile

• Proven experience in planning, implementing and managing gender‑focused peace and security programmes.
• Demonstrated ability to work with UN system entities, multilateral donors, government bodies and NGOs.
• Strong analytical background in conflict and gender analysis.
• Excellent coordination and communication skills in a multi‑stakeholder environment.
