Lead Structural Engineer

About the role

The Lead Structural Engineer will direct the design and technical oversight of infrastructure projects across the Horn of Africa. This senior position involves applying advanced structural engineering expertise to complex challenges, ensuring compliance with international standards, and contributing to regional development.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct site assessments, interpret topographic and geotechnical data, and evaluate risks such as settlement and slope instability.
• Select structural systems and perform detailed design and analysis of superstructures and foundations under relevant load combinations.
• Prepare complete design deliverables, including drawings, calculations, reports, specifications and Bills of Quantities.
• Provide technical input for tender documents, respond to bidder queries, and assist in proposal evaluation.
• Support construction teams by reviewing shop drawings, method statements, material submissions, and addressing on‑site technical issues.

Required profile

• Seasoned structural engineer with proven ability to lead design teams and manage technical aspects of large‑scale projects.
• Strong knowledge of international and national design codes and standards.
• Experience working in challenging environments, preferably within the Horn of Africa region.
• Ability to work independently, produce high‑quality documentation, and supervise junior staff.
