Materials Engineer

About the role

Elmi Olindo Contractors Private Limited Company is seeking a qualified Materials Engineer to support its Woodwork Shop Department. The role focuses on selecting, estimating, and controlling wood‑based materials to ensure efficient production and cost effectiveness.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and specify appropriate woodwork materials based on drawings and production needs.
• Calculate material quantities, prepare take‑offs and material requirement schedules.
• Inspect and verify quality of timber, plywood, MDF, particle board, veneer, laminates, adhesives, and hardware.
• Check incoming supplies against approved specifications, quantities and quality standards.
• Monitor material consumption, compare actual usage with approved quantities, and analyse wastage.
• Recommend methods to reduce material waste and support cost‑control initiatives.
• Coordinate material requirements with the Woodwork Shop, Store, Procurement, Design, Quantity Surveying and Project teams.
• Maintain accurate records of material usage, stock levels and production requirements.
• Support ERP or other digital systems for material tracking and production control.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Department Head or Management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Wood Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Relevant experience in woodwork, furniture manufacturing, interior finishing or construction environments.
• Strong knowledge of wood and wood‑based materials and their applications.
• Ability to read technical drawings and specifications.
• Good analytical, problem‑solving and attention‑to‑detail abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Familiarity with ERP systems (advantageous).
