Physiotherapist – Rehabilitation Specialist

About the role

The Physiotherapist will provide comprehensive assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for patients with limb loss and other mobility impairments, supporting functional recovery and independence within EMERGENCY’s multidisciplinary team in Ethiopia.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct thorough physical assessments of patients with upper and lower‑limb amputations, including musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular, balance and gait evaluations.
• Develop, implement and monitor individualized physiotherapy and rehabilitation plans for in‑patients and out‑patients.
• Deliver pre‑prosthetic care such as residual‑limb shaping, edema, scar and pain management, range‑of‑motion and strengthening exercises, and contracture prevention.
• Provide prosthetic rehabilitation including gait training, balance and coordination drills, functional mobility, stair negotiation and activities of daily living training.
• Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans based on outcomes and motivate patients to maintain a positive attitude toward therapy.
• Maintain infection‑control standards, equipment functionality and accurate clinical documentation while ensuring patient confidentiality.
• Collaborate closely with prosthetists/orthotists, offering clinical feedback on prosthetic fit, function and comfort.
• Prepare and submit periodic reports in line with EMERGENCY guidelines.

Required profile

• Qualified physiotherapist with experience in amputee and prosthetic rehabilitation.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary humanitarian team.
• Commitment to patient‑centred care, safety and professional ethics.
