Sanitation Market PBI Officer

About the role

The Market for Sanitation PBI Officer will lead a market‑based approach to improve sanitation in the assigned area, helping vulnerable children enjoy better health and dignity. Working with local governments, WASH business centres and community partners, the officer will drive demand creation, support entrepreneurs and ensure reliable data collection on sales and marketing activities.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the approved Place‑Based Initiative (PBI) plan, coordinating with communities, local government and partners.
• Support and monitor WASH business centres, sales agents and marketing activities.
• Collect, verify and report business and sales data through the mWater platform.
• Facilitate community mobilisation and demand creation for improved sanitation.
• Provide business development and capacity‑building support to local entrepreneurs and Mason installers.
• Ensure proper use of daily sales registration formats and electronic data capture tools.
• Lead annual and quarterly woreda WASH/Sanitation work‑plan preparation and monitor sub‑award budget utilisation.
• Coordinate sector networking, partnerships and documentation of project activities.

Required profile

• Experience in WASH, sanitation or market‑based development programmes.
• Proven ability to work with local government structures and community groups.
• Strong organisational skills for planning, reporting and budgeting.
• Ability to coach field staff and facilitate capacity‑building sessions.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the mWater data collection platform.
