Chief of Section, Programme Management

About the role

The Economic Commission for Africa is seeking a senior professional to lead the Programme Management Section within the Social‑Economic Development Division. Reporting to the Division Director, the incumbent will guide policy advice, strategy development and the coordination of division‑wide activities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide policy advice on conceptual strategy development and oversee implementation of intra‑ and inter‑divisional policies and procedures.
• Coordinate the Division’s work programme, ensuring timely delivery of substantive work and programme activities.
• Review and contribute to drafts, position papers and reports for intergovernmental bodies such as the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budget Questions, ECOSOC and the UN General Assembly.
• Support reporting on budget and programme performance, including bi‑annual and annual reports.
• Liaise with other UN entities, donors and agencies to align activities and foster collaboration.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in policy advice, programme management and strategic coordination within an international or UN‑related context.
• Proven ability to prepare high‑level position papers and reports for intergovernmental bodies.
• Strong analytical and coordination skills to manage multiple projects across divisions.
