About the role
Under the supervision of the Chief of Health (P5), the Social and Behavior Change Specialist provides technical leadership for designing, implementing, monitoring and scaling evidence‑based health SBC and community engagement strategies to improve UNICEF Ethiopia’s health programme results.
Key responsibilities
- Generate and apply health SBC evidence to inform programme design and policy.
- Design, plan and implement integrated health SBC interventions across primary health care, RMNCAH and immunisation.
- Strengthen community engagement, accountability and demand for quality health services.
- Support partnerships, coordination and resource mobilisation for health SBC activities.
- Build capacity and systems for sustainable health SBC implementation.
Required profile
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in social and behavioural science, public health, health promotion, communication for development or a related field.
- At least five years of relevant experience in social and behaviour change, community engagement, risk communication, health promotion or similar.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of an additional UN language or a local language is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work in development, humanitarian or fragile settings.
Required skills
- Designing and implementing Social and Behavior Change programmes.
- Community engagement, participation and social accountability.
- Behavioural research, social listening and evidence generation.
- Public health programming including PHC, RMNCAH and immunisation.
- Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) in development and humanitarian contexts.
- Monitoring, evaluation and data‑driven programme management.
