About the role
The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in its Regional Hub for East and Southern Africa is seeking a Human Rights Officer to join its team in Addis Ababa. The officer will support the Regional Director by monitoring, analysing and reporting on human‑rights and humanitarian‑law compliance across the region.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor and investigate compliance with international human rights and humanitarian law.
- Analyse and manage data to inform early‑warning mechanisms, accountability processes and policy development.
- Draft evidence‑based reports and provide strategic advice to UN leadership and national authorities.
- Integrate human‑rights perspectives into peace, humanitarian and development planning.
- Advise on protection of civilians, rule of law and transitional justice.
- Foster partnerships, capacity‑building and advocacy initiatives that promote equality and accountability.
Required profile
- Reports to the relevant workstream lead under the overall guidance of the Regional Director or delegated representative.
