Packaging Engineer

About the role

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for ensuring the packaging hall operates efficiently, safely and in compliance with all relevant legislation. The role focuses on optimal use of plant, raw materials and personnel to deliver high‑quality products at minimum cost while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and monitor safety and housekeeping procedures, ensuring compliance with legal requirements such as the OSH Act.
• Develop, implement and audit the asset‑care plan for the packaging hall, integrating asset‑care goals into team objectives.
• Lead the engineering team to maintain overall plant reliability and up‑time, overseeing routine and planned maintenance activities.
• Validate maintenance system data integrity and ensure accurate reporting.
• Participate in plant optimisation trials, evaluate new equipment impacts and sign off modifications.
• Identify training needs and coordinate with the training controller to address skill gaps.

Required profile

• Strong commitment to safety, legal compliance and continuous improvement.
• Proven ability to lead an engineering team in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in developing and auditing asset‑care programmes.
• Analytical mindset for reviewing plant performance data and driving optimisation.
• Excellent communication skills to coordinate with shift‑based production teams.
