Project Manager – Groundwater Access Initiative

About the role

The Project Manager will lead the implementation of the Groundwater Access Facility for Africa Initiative in the Somali regional state of Ethiopia. Working in partnership with the Children Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) and the UNDP Resilience Hub for Africa, the role focuses on drilling and equipping boreholes, establishing storage and distribution networks, and delivering water to communities and livestock.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and supervise the drilling and equipping of boreholes, including storage facilities and standpipes.
• Manage partnerships with CIFF, UNDP, local authorities and community stakeholders.
• Develop and deliver training and capacity‑building activities on groundwater governance.
• Establish monitoring, evaluation and reporting systems to track project performance and inform policy decisions.
• Oversee budgeting, procurement and logistical arrangements for the project.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing development projects related to water resources, climate resilience or rural livelihoods.
• Familiarity with the Horn of Africa context and transboundary water issues.
• Ability to work collaboratively with international agencies, NGOs and local communities.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills.
