Protection-MHPSS Officer

About the role

The Protection-MHPSS Officer will lead integrated protection and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) activities for displaced populations in Bordede woreda. Reporting to the WPE/CP Program Manager in Harar, the officer ensures quality case management, psychological interventions, and coordination with partners while adhering to survivor‑centered GBV principles.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct rapid assessments and contribute to the overall protection‑MHPSS strategy based on feedback from women and girls.
• Manage, monitor, and supervise GBV cases in line with GBV guiding principles.
• Train and mentor frontline workers, community volunteers, and staff on basic psychosocial support, Psychological First Aid (PFA), and trauma‑informed care.
• Facilitate SH+ group psychological intervention sessions and track participant progress.
• Recruit, supervise, and build capacity of social workers to deliver protection‑MHPSS services.
• Provide age‑appropriate support for adult women, adolescents, and girl survivors, using quarterly assessment tools.
• Coordinate referral networks with health, safety, justice, and psychosocial services.

Required profile

• Experience in humanitarian protection, GBV response, or MHPSS programming.
• Demonstrated ability to work with IDP and host communities and to supervise field staff.
• Strong understanding of survivor‑centered approaches and trauma‑informed methodologies.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills with partners and community groups.

Required skills

• Knowledge of GBV case management systems (e.g., GBVIMS).
• Proficiency in delivering Psychological First Aid and group psychosocial interventions.
• Capacity‑building and training facilitation experience.
