UN Women Liaison Office Consultant

About the role

The Liaison Office of UN Women to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) seeks a Consultant to provide strategic leadership and technical coordination for its regional programme. Reporting to the Special Representative to the AU and UNECA, the role ensures coherent planning, implementation and quality assurance across all programme components.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of the regional liaison portfolio in line with the Strategic Note/programme document.
• Offer technical inputs on policy and programme development for gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE) issues, drawing on good practices and evidence‑based approaches.
• Coordinate engagement with regional partners and stakeholders, strengthening partnerships and facilitating advocacy.
• Lead knowledge‑management efforts and support the integration of gender considerations across AU frameworks and programmes.
• Maintain oversight of the programme portfolio and ensure alignment with UN Women’s regional and country offices.

Required profile

• Proven experience in gender equality, women’s empowerment and policy coordination at regional or continental level.
• Familiarity with AU structures, UN agencies and multilateral development partners.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to translate evidence into actionable policy recommendations.
