WASH & Environmental Health Officer/Coordinator/Specialist

About the role

The WASH and Environmental Health Officer/Coordinator/Specialist will be based in Addis Ababa and work full‑time on‑site to plan, coordinate and monitor water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and environmental health activities that support Ethiopia’s national health strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and monitor WASH and environmental health interventions in line with national policies.
• Assess environmental health risks, conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
• Prepare technical reports, guidelines and training materials for regional and local health authorities.
• Provide technical support and capacity‑building to health facilities and community stakeholders.
• Collect, analyse and interpret environmental and health data to inform policy development and emergency preparedness.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Health, Public Health, Environmental Science or a related field.
• Experience in WASH programmes, health‑facility environmental health management or public‑health projects.
• Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and engage with community and institutional stakeholders.

Required skills

• Environmental health assessment, planning and management.
• Health & safety and hygiene promotion.
• Inspection of facilities and communities with documentation of findings.
• Data collection, analysis and reporting.
• Proficiency with computer applications and familiarity with national and international WASH guidelines.
