About the role
The Chief Migration Health Officer reports to the Chief of Mission and works under the technical supervision of the Regional Health Assessment Programme Coordinator. The role leads the development, implementation and management of health assessment and related programmes for migrants in Ethiopia.
Key responsibilities
- Organise and supervise migration health assessments, including medical examinations, imaging, laboratory testing, vaccinations, TB management, treatment, referrals and pre‑departure procedures.
- Ensure health assessment facilities meet professional quality and safety standards and that staff have appropriate qualifications and licences.
- Maintain relationships with government authorities, receiving‑country immigration and health agencies, UN and non‑UN partners, NGOs and donors.
- Develop and enforce SOPs, quality‑improvement systems, incident‑management procedures and data‑protection protocols.
- Oversee budgeting, financial monitoring, procurement of medical supplies and equipment, and reporting to the Migration Health Division.
- Lead staff performance management, training, development strategies and supervision of both health and non‑health personnel.
- Coordinate mobile medical team activities and integrate health assessment work with broader migration‑health programmes.
- Identify and develop new migration‑health projects for migrants, IDPs and host communities.
Required profile
- University degree in Medicine (e.g., internal medicine, paediatrics, anaesthesiology, emergency medicine, family medicine, obstetrics & gynaecology) from an accredited institution.
- Minimum nine years of relevant professional experience, including at least three years in a managerial role.
- Professional clinical experience in a multidisciplinary hospital or international clinic setting, preferably with migration health assessments.
- Demonstrated experience in health programme management, project development, reporting and migration‑health emergency response.
