Community Mobilizer

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council is seeking a Community Mobilizer to support its mixed migration project in Jigjiga and Dire Dawa, Ethiopia. The role focuses on engaging migrants, returnees, host communities and other people on the move, providing protection information and facilitating access to services.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular outreach and information sessions with migrants, returnees, host communities and other people on the move at targeted locations.
• Disseminate clear, accessible information on legal rights, protection services, case management, psychosocial support, civil documentation and safe migration pathways.
• Support the Protection Team by preparing weekly/monthly reports and analysing vulnerable cases.
• Engage women, girls, persons with disabilities and other groups facing barriers to information and services.
• Carry out risk‑assessment visits, identify protection risks and coordinate referrals with partners and in‑house services.
• Collect community feedback, concerns and suggestions and relay them to project and protection teams.
• Maintain strong relationships with implementing partners, community structures and local authorities.
• Ensure confidentiality during interviews and safeguard sensitive information.
• Support the establishment and strengthening of community‑based protection structures and facilitate community‑led risk mitigation actions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in community mobilisation, protection or migration‑related humanitarian work.
• Ability to work with diverse groups, including women, youth, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable populations.
• Strong communication skills and capacity to deliver information in an accessible manner.
• Commitment to confidentiality and ethical handling of sensitive data.
