Consultancy on Economic Diagnostics and Strategic Macroeconomic Analysis

About the role

The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) seeks an experienced consultant to deliver rigorous economic diagnostics and strategic macro‑economic analysis that will support African countries in achieving inclusive, sustainable growth. This remote assignment lasts six months and contributes directly to ECA’s programme pillar under the Office of the Deputy Executive Secretary (Programme) and Chief Economist.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse the impact of recent global shocks—geopolitical conflicts, supply‑chain disruptions, climate change, and technological gaps—on African economies.
• Identify policy options to strengthen fiscal sustainability, enhance domestic resource mobilisation and reduce reliance on external financing.
• Develop evidence‑based recommendations on leveraging strategic assets such as critical minerals, renewable energy potential and demographic dividends.
• Support the design of innovative financing mechanisms, risk‑mitigation tools and credit‑enhancement strategies to lower the cost of capital for large‑scale investments.
• Prepare concise briefing notes and reports that inform ECA’s advocacy for multilateral reforms and the modernization of development banks.
