Economic Recovery Officer

About the role

The Economic Recovery Officer will support the Danish Refugee Council’s economic recovery programme in Assosa, Ethiopia. Working under the Program Manager, the officer will lead the rollout of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and income‑generating activities (IGAs) to build sustainable livelihoods and promote financial inclusion.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support for planning, coordination and implementation of economic recovery interventions.
• Lead the expansion and sustainability of VSLAs, including mentor training and ongoing support.
• Facilitate the design, planning and management of IGAs, linking communities to formal financial services and market opportunities.
• Analyse local economies, identify systemic barriers and design market‑based interventions that promote inclusive growth and resilience.
• Collaborate with DRC teams, consortium partners, government agencies, UN bodies, NGOs and private‑sector actors to ensure programme integration and advocacy.

Required profile

• Demonstrated expertise in food security, livelihood programmes, cash‑based transfers and on/off‑farm economic recovery.
• Experience with graduation models, youth employment schemes, financial inclusion and climate‑smart agriculture.
• Ability to work in a gender‑sensitive, conflict‑aware and protection‑focused environment.
