Engineering & Technical Department Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering & Technical Department Manager to lead engineering, maintenance, utilities and technical operations across our manufacturing facilities in Addis Ababa. The role ensures equipment reliability, operational readiness and drives continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical, electrical, utility and maintenance functions across all plants.
• Plan and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programmes for production and utility equipment.
• Ensure high equipment availability, reliability and operational readiness.
• Manage engineering and technical projects, delivering on time and within budget.
• Develop and implement technical specifications, SOPs, maintenance procedures and work orders.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis for breakdowns and recurring technical issues.
• Maintain equipment history, maintenance records and technical documentation.
• Plan spare‑parts, tools, lubricants and other maintenance resources.
• Drive initiatives to reduce maintenance, energy, fuel and operational costs.
• Participate in selection, procurement, installation and commissioning of production and auxiliary equipment.
• Coordinate external technical service providers and monitor performance.
• Develop training programmes to build technical capability of engineering and maintenance staff.
• Ensure strict compliance with Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) requirements.
• Prepare weekly, monthly and annual technical performance reports.
• Support continuous improvement across engineering and manufacturing operations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 9 years of engineering/technical experience, with at least 7 years in a managerial role within manufacturing.
• Strong background in industrial maintenance, utilities, engineering operations and production equipment.
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Experience in engineering project execution, equipment installation, commissioning and maintenance planning.
