General Coordinator (Head of Mission) – Ethiopia

About the role

Médecins du Monde is seeking an experienced leader to head its mission in Ethiopia. The General Coordinator will steer the growth of the programme, diversify funding sources and ensure the delivery of high‑quality health and humanitarian services across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit, manage, train and motivate a multidisciplinary mission team.
• Define operational and advocacy strategies together with the coordination team and volunteer board.
• Plan, monitor and adjust activities, providing technical support where needed.
• Represent MdM with authorities, partners, donors and the media.
• Oversee partnership agreements, develop new collaborations and lead fundraising initiatives.
• Ensure financial coverage through budget management and donor reporting.
• Draft, adapt and enforce safety regulations, coordinate crisis management.
• Supervise compliance with MdM’s programmatic framework, policies and reporting obligations.

Required profile

• Significant experience leading large‑scale humanitarian or development missions.
• Proven ability to manage multi‑disciplinary teams and complex budgets.
• Strong track record in fundraising, partnership development and donor relations.
• Excellent knowledge of humanitarian standards, safety protocols and crisis management.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of French or local languages is an asset.
