About the role
The Head of Unit – Treasury provides technical support for the effective and transparent expenditure of the African Union, ensuring compliance with sound financial management principles. The role leads the Treasury Division, supervises staff and drives the development and implementation of treasury policies and strategies.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain the register of all assets and conduct monthly and quarterly cash counts.
- Prepare and submit cash‑forecast/projection reports, daily cash balance updates and cash‑flow forecasts.
- Monitor investment portfolios (working capital, high‑yield, escrow) and adjust actions in response to market movements.
- Ensure treasury policies are up‑to‑date, reviewed annually and aligned with regulatory changes.
- Manage relationships with financial service providers, overseeing service charges and payment transfers.
- Supervise staff, evaluate performance and ensure timely processing of payments and transfers.
- Prepare budgets, investment reports and financial models for the Division and the AU.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in Finance/Accounting with at least 7 years of relevant experience, including 3 years in a supervisory role (or Bachelor’s degree with 10 years experience, 3 years supervisory).
- Demonstrated leadership competencies such as strategic insight, managing risk and developing others.
- Proficiency in at least one AU working language; fluency in an additional AU language is an advantage.

What we offer
- Indicative basic salary of US$ 37,453 per annum.
- Post‑adjustment (46 % of basic salary), housing allowance of US$ 22,932 per annum and education allowance up to US$ 10,000 per child per annum (US$ 3,300 for locally recruited staff).
- Three‑year renewable contract with a twelve‑month probationary period.
