MEAL Officer – Project (Addis Ababa/Harar/Jimma)

About the role

The MEAL Officer will support the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning components of SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia projects in Addis Ababa, Harar and Jimma. Working under the supervision of the Location MEAL Coordinator, the officer ensures that project activities are effectively monitored, data are accurately collected and analysed, and learning mechanisms are embedded throughout the program cycle.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive MEAL framework and monitoring plans for assigned projects.
• Collect, verify and analyse quantitative and qualitative data to assess project performance.
• Prepare regular monitoring reports, dashboards and evaluation briefs for stakeholders.
• Facilitate learning sessions and integrate feedback into adaptive management processes.
• Collaborate closely with program teams to ensure timely data flow and responsive decision‑making.
• Uphold SOS Children’s Villages safeguarding policies, Code of Conduct and child‑youth safeguarding standards in all activities.

Required profile

• Experience in monitoring, evaluation, accountability or learning within humanitarian or development projects.
• Ability to work under the guidance of a MEAL Coordinator and coordinate with multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Strong commitment to safeguarding principles and ethical standards.
• Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
