Medical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Medical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist to join our diagnostic centre in Addis Ababa. The role involves performing routine and specialised diagnostic tests while ensuring high standards of quality, safety and patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialised diagnostic tests across haematology, clinical chemistry, serology/immunology, parasitology, urinalysis and microbiology.
• Collect, receive, label, process and store patient specimens following SOPs and chain‑of‑custody procedures.
• Operate, calibrate and maintain laboratory analysers and document activities.
• Record, verify and report results promptly, escalating critical values to clinicians.
• Run internal quality control and participate in external quality assessments in line with EPHI and ISO 15189.

Required profile

• Diploma (Level IV with COC) or BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology/Science from a recognised institution.
• Valid, renewed professional licence from the Ministry of Health or Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority.
• Minimum six years of relevant experience in a diagnostic centre or clinical laboratory.
• Strong knowledge of specimen handling, laboratory testing and quality management systems.
• Fluent in Amharic and English, both spoken and written.

Required skills

• Specimen handling and processing.
• Laboratory testing (haematology, clinical chemistry, serology/immunology, parasitology, urinalysis, microbiology).
• Operation, calibration and routine maintenance of automated analysers.
• Use of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
• Implementation of internal quality control (IQC) and participation in external quality assessment (EQA).
