Midwifery Nurse (MHNT) – Moyale

About the role

The Midwifery Nurse (MHNT) will support Save the Children’s emergency programmes in Afar, focusing on accountability to beneficiaries and community empowerment. Working closely with the MEAL Coordinator and project staff, the role ensures quality health and nutrition services are delivered to the target population.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and facilitate mobile health and nutrition activities, including site selection and weekly movement planning.
• Provide basic health and nutrition services such as community ANC, family planning, IMNCI/ICCM, safe motherhood, emergency care, referrals, health education, and EPI according to MOH guidelines.
• Facilitate the supply of essential drugs, therapeutic products, and training for health posts, centres, and hospitals.
• Organise and submit regular reports on ANC, FP, EPI, health education and referrals, ensuring accurate data from Health Extension Workers (HEWs).
• Mentor HEWs, support decision‑making for severe cases, and conduct onsite training for nurses and HEWs.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor degree in Midwifery.
• Minimum three years of experience, with at least two years in maternal and child health programmes.
• Hands‑on experience in clinical settings, especially in maternal and child health services.

Required skills

• Maternal and child health service delivery.
• Antenatal care (ANC) and family planning (FP) implementation.
• Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness (IMNCI/ICCM).
• Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) coordination.
