Project Support Associate (Civil Engineering and Site Planning)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration is seeking a Project Support Associate to provide engineering and technical assistance for the planning and development of a Model Border Control Post in Ethiopia. Working under the Programme Officer (Immigration and Border Governance) and the National Programme Officer, the incumbent will help translate operational border management needs into practical infrastructure solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical engineering support for the design and development of the Model Border Control Post, including site assessments and infrastructure reviews.
• Prepare and refine technical documentation such as concept notes, engineering briefs, technical specifications, Bills of Quantities inputs, and Terms of Reference for consultancy services.
• Assist in developing procurement documents for geotechnical investigations, topographic surveys, environmental assessments, and engineering design assignments.
• Review and quality‑assure technical studies, engineering drawings, site layouts, and conceptual designs produced by external consultants.
• Participate in field missions to collect engineering, utility, and environmental data relevant to border infrastructure planning.
• Incorporate operational requirements into infrastructure planning, covering passenger and freight circulation, traffic management, protection‑sensitive facilities, health screening, ICT systems, solar power, water and sanitation, and future scalability.
• Liaise with IOM units and government counterparts to ensure alignment with integrated border management and environmental sustainability standards.
