Senior Budget Assistant – Finance & Budget Unit

About the role

The Economic Commission for Africa is seeking two Senior Budget Assistants to join its Finance and Budget Section in Addis Ababa. Reporting to the Head of the Budget Unit and a Finance & Budget Officer, the role supports the Commission’s mission of delivering knowledge‑based solutions for Africa’s development.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake reviews, analyses and preparation of programme plans and their revisions.
• Review and assist in finalising cost estimates for budget proposals, ensuring compliance with programme plans and legislative mandates.
• Act as Certifying Officer on behalf of programme managers for offices outside headquarters.
• Assist managers in elaborating resource requirements for budget submissions.
• Conduct research and provide support for budget monitoring activities.

Required profile

• Proven experience in budget formulation and monitoring within an international or public‑sector environment.
• Ability to act as a Certifying Officer and ensure compliance with legislative and programme requirements.
• Strong analytical skills for reviewing cost estimates and programme plans.
• Experience collaborating with senior finance and programme managers.
