Senior Process Focused Backend Developer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Process Focused Backend Developer to join our technology team in Addis Ababa. The role reports to the Head of Engineering and will be pivotal in designing and delivering secure, scalable backend services that support our core banking and digital channels.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop backend services, APIs, micro‑services and business logic using Java 17 and Spring Boot.
• Translate business and technical requirements into maintainable, high‑performance code.
• Implement RESTful APIs, asynchronous processes, event‑driven components and integrate them with core banking, payment, and digital channel systems.
• Build and maintain process‑oriented workflows using BPMN engines such as Camunda or Activiti.
• Support Flutter‑based mobile backends, including push notifications and offline‑sync capabilities.
• Collaborate on CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps practices and automated quality gates.
• Integrate backend services with Angular‑based admin portals and dashboards.

Required profile

• Expert‑level proficiency in Java (version 17 or higher) and modern language features.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Spring Boot, including Spring MVC, Spring Data, Spring Security and Spring Cloud.
• Deep understanding of RESTful API design, versioning and secure gateway integration.
• Proven experience with BPMN‑based workflow engines (Camunda or Activiti).
• Practical knowledge of Flutter backend integration and Angular front‑end integration.
• Familiarity with core banking integration standards such as ISO 8583 and SWIFT.
• High operational accuracy and strict adherence to NBE standards.
