Area Manager – North Area Office

About the role

The Area Manager is a senior representative of Save the Children in the North region of Ethiopia, overseeing multiple field and project offices. Reporting to the Director of Program Operations, the role ensures effective implementation of programmes across Amhara, Tigray and Afar, while maintaining strong partnerships and compliance with organisational policies.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage two or more field offices and project sites, supervising up to 130 staff members.
• Develop and execute area‑level strategies, annual operational plans and core business processes.
• Oversee a budget exceeding USD 7 million and manage more than 15 active donor awards.
• Coordinate with Country Office units (PDQ, HR, Finance, Safety & Security) and ensure alignment with senior leadership.
• Ensure compliance with Save the Children’s fraud, bribery, corruption and child safeguarding policies.
• Represent the organisation in humanitarian emergencies, adapting working hours and responsibilities as needed.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in humanitarian programme management and multi‑site leadership.
• Proven ability to manage large budgets and donor‑funded projects.
• Strong understanding of child safeguarding and ethical compliance frameworks.
• Excellent stakeholder management and partnership building skills.
