Area Manager – South-Central Area Office

About the role

The Area Manager is a senior representative of Save the Children International in Ethiopia, leading the South‑Central Area Office. Reporting to the Director of Program Operations, the role oversees multiple field and project offices, ensuring high‑quality delivery of programmes across health, nutrition, WASH, education, food security, and child protection.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage three or more field offices and project sites, supervising over 80 staff members.
• Oversee an annual budget exceeding USD 5 million and manage more than eight active donor awards.
• Develop and implement area‑level strategies, operational plans, and core business processes.
• Coordinate closely with Country Office units (PDQ, HR, Finance, Safety & Security) and ensure compliance with Save the Children policies, including fraud, bribery, and child safeguarding requirements.
• Represent the organisation in partner meetings, fostering strong relationships with government, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
• Provide strategic guidance to Field Managers and functional leads (Finance, Supply Chain, HR/Admin, Safety & Security).
• Respond to major humanitarian emergencies, adapting working hours and responsibilities as needed.

Required profile

• Extensive experience managing large, multi‑disciplinary teams in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven track record of handling multi‑million‑dollar budgets and donor‑funded programmes.
• Strong knowledge of sectoral areas such as health, nutrition, WASH, education, food security, and child protection.
• Ability to travel frequently within the South‑Central region of Ethiopia.
• Excellent leadership, strategic planning, and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
