Business Development Specialist – China–Ethiopia Trade Lane

About the role

As a Business Development Specialist for the China–Ethiopia trade lane at DHL Express, you will drive growth in one of Ethiopia’s most strategic bilateral corridors. The focus is on Heavyweight Express shipments (30‑1000 kg), offering speed, reliability and customs simplicity for time‑critical, high‑value cargo.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, target and secure new business opportunities within the Ethiopia‑China corridor, emphasizing Heavyweight Express shipments.
• Develop and execute a pipeline strategy aimed at Chinese manufacturers, industrial and technology firms operating in Ethiopia, as well as Ethiopian exporters and importers trading with China.
• Leverage personal and professional networks in the Chinese business and investment community to accelerate commercial opportunities.
• Negotiate and close deals in line with DHL Express pricing, yield and governance standards to ensure sustainable profitability.
• Conduct detailed analyses of customer needs, investment‑driven supply chains and shipment flows, positioning DHL Heavyweight solutions accordingly.

Required profile

• Commercially astute professional with a strong understanding of international trade dynamics.
• Culturally fluent and well‑connected within the Chinese business ecosystem in Ethiopia.
• Proven ability to convert investment flows into profitable, sustainable logistics business.
• Excellent negotiation and relationship‑building skills.
• Solid knowledge of logistics, freight forwarding and customs processes.
