Cost Accountant

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to join the finance team of a leading manufacturer in Addis Ababa. The role focuses on developing and maintaining cost structures, analysing variances and providing actionable insights to support production, pricing and profitability decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain standard costs, update bills of materials, routings and labor/material rates.
• Keep inventory and cost accounting records accurate and up‑to‑date.
• Prepare and monitor production, operational and per‑unit cost reports for management.
• Run variance analysis (material, labor, overhead) against standards and recommend corrective actions.
• Value and control inventory across raw materials, work‑in‑process and finished goods; oversee store records, periodic physical counts and investigate discrepancies.
• Track and analyse production yield, scrap, wastage and rework, quantifying their cost impact.
• Support product and margin profitability analysis to inform pricing and product‑mix decisions.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting and monthly, quarterly and year‑end closing.
• Ensure records comply with IFRS and Ethiopian tax requirements (VAT, withholding, excise) and company policy.
• Maintain accurate costing data in the ERP/accounting system.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong analytical judgment with a track record of accurate, data‑driven decision support.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Experience with cost accounting software.
• Familiarity with ERP or accounting systems for costing data.
