Driver (General Service Grade 2)

About the role

UNHCR is recruiting a Driver (Grade GS2, General Service) for its office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The driver is supervised by the Administrative Officer or another staff member and is responsible for driving official UNHCR vehicles and keeping them maintained to security standards. The deadline for applications is 5 November 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Drive UNHCR vehicles to transport authorized passengers and to deliver and collect documents and other items.
• Meet official personnel at airports or other locations and help with immigration and customs formalities.
• Perform day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles (oil, water, battery, brakes, tires) and keep them clean.
• Perform minor repairs, arrange other repairs and ensure vehicles meet security standards.
• Follow rules and procedures in the event of an accident and log official trips, mileage, fuel and oil changes.
• Ensure valid documentation for passengers, items or cargo and follow the supervisor's security guidance.
• Raise risks and issues to a supervisor and perform other related duties as required.

Required profile

• Valid driving licence for the country of operation, with knowledge of driving rules and regulations.
• 2 years of relevant experience and completion of primary education or a high school diploma or higher.
• Previous experience as a driver with UN organizations and/or NGOs is desirable.
• Knowledge of traffic safety regulations and local driving conditions, especially in challenging terrain, is desirable.
• Proven mechanical knowledge to diagnose and fix minor vehicle issues is desirable.
• French and Arabic are essential; local dialects are desirable.
