Economic Programming and Private Business Partnerships Advisor

About the role

The Economic Programming and Private Business Partnerships Advisor will play a central role in shaping and strengthening People in Need Ethiopia’s economic and private business programming portfolio. The position provides strategic oversight, programme delivery support for the EU Empower project, and drives partnership development and resource mobilisation across the Country Programme.

Key responsibilities

• Continuously scan the economic landscape to identify emerging sectors, opportunities and partnership potential aligned with Ethiopia CP strategic priorities.
• Develop and refine the country’s approach to economic programming, ensuring interventions are grounded in market realities and positioned for sustainable impact.
• Lead structured market and sector assessments and translate findings into actionable strategic directions and new initiatives.
• Facilitate access to finance for target groups and market actors by brokering relationships with banks, micro‑finance institutions and impact investors.
• Support business engagement, adaptive programming and the translation of programme learning into wider strategic opportunities.
• Contribute to resource mobilisation and external positioning of People in Need’s economic programming.

Required profile

• Proven experience in economic programming, private‑sector engagement or market‑systems work.
• Strong ability to develop strategies, conduct market assessments and design interventions responsive to emerging opportunities.
• Demonstrated success in building partnerships with financial institutions, micro‑finance providers and impact investors.
• Familiarity with the Ethiopian development context and ability to work in an international NGO environment.
