Event Manager

About the role

AfricaSkate, a pan-African platform for skateboarding, urban culture and youth creativity, is hiring a full-time Event Manager based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The role is hybrid, with some work from home, and covers festivals, competitions, workshops and community gatherings. The manager plans, coordinates and delivers events while overseeing on-site operations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop event concepts, create timelines and budgets, and secure venues and permits
• Coordinate suppliers and partners and manage logistics such as travel, equipment and technical set-up
• Oversee on-site operations, lead staff and volunteers, and ensure safety and accessibility
• Manage communication with participants, artists and partners
• Collaborate with media and creative teams on promotion, maintain stakeholder relationships and collect feedback and data to improve future events

Required profile

• Experience in event planning and management, including budgeting, scheduling and on-site coordination
• Strong project management skills, able to handle multiple events at once
• Ability to lead and supervise staff and volunteers
• Hybrid work comfort, with in-person presence in Addis Ababa
• Fluency in English and Amharic; knowledge of local languages is a plus
• Familiarity with youth culture, skateboarding or urban arts in Africa is highly beneficial
• Relevant education or equivalent experience in Event Management, Project Management, Communications, Marketing or a related field
