Finance Specialist - Control and Compliance

About the role

The Finance Specialist will support the Senior Finance Manager – Controls and Compliance in delivering robust financial management for Save the Children Ethiopia’s portfolio of roughly USD 50 million. The role focuses on strengthening financial controls, ensuring compliance with policies and statutory requirements, and supporting audit activities.

Key responsibilities

• Amortise staff, vehicle and premises pre‑payments on a monthly basis and ensure timely processing of HQ transactions.
• Perform online bank reconciliations and complete Single Account Reconciliation (SAR) of balance‑sheet and control accounts each month.
• Manage balance‑sheet accounts, provide monthly status reports, and support AL and TG reconciliations.
• Organise tax orientation for staff, recover eligible VAT, re‑classify rejected VAT, and ensure timely withholding‑tax remittance.
• Maintain accurate VAT filing (soft and hard copy) and conduct analytical reviews of taxes and deductions.
• Assist with local statutory audit and KPMG audit, providing proactive controls and documentation to prevent donor disallowances.
• Adhere to SCI fraud, bribery and corruption policies, report any suspected misconduct, declare conflicts of interest and complete mandatory ethics training.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of SCI policies, local tax regulations and financial control frameworks.
• Experience in bank reconciliation, VAT processing and audit support.
• Attention to detail, high integrity and ability to work collaboratively with HQ and local teams.
