Full-Stack Developer

About the role

Independent News & Media Plc. is looking for a Full-Stack Developer to help build and evolve a modern, scalable digital platform. The role covers end-to-end application development, spanning backend services, web interfaces and integrations, with the choice of the right technology for each part. It is an on-site position in Addis Ababa, open to one candidate, with a salary to be negotiated.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services
• Build interactive, responsive user interfaces with React
• Implement secure authentication, authorisation and role-based access control
• Use queues, background jobs and event-driven workflows for asynchronous processing
• Design and maintain efficient data models with relational and semi-structured data
• Integrate backend systems with Python-based services and other external platforms
• Keep the application performant, secure and maintainable across all layers
• Work with designers, engineers and stakeholders, and take part in architecture and code quality decisions

Required profile

• Mid-level developer with 3 to 5 years of experience
• Ability to work independently and own features from concept to deployment

Required skills

• RESTful API design and implementation
• Modern JavaScript frameworks, including React
• Backend frameworks such as Laravel and FastAPI
• Python for backend services or data workflows
• Relational databases
• Queues, background jobs and asynchronous systems
• Docker and Git
• Preferred: FilamentPHP, distributed systems or hybrid monolith understanding, and integration of search, analytics or data-processing systems
