Global Director, Culture and DEI

About the role

The Global Director, Culture and DEI will shape and operationalise WRI’s worldwide culture and diversity, equity and inclusion agenda. Working from a hybrid office in Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda or the Netherlands, you will partner with senior leaders to embed inclusive practices and ensure the organisation lives its values every day.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation and continuous refinement of WRI’s global culture and DEI strategy, aligning it with organisational priorities and values.
• Translate strategic goals into a portfolio of measurable initiatives, milestones and a DEI maturity matrix.
• Identify organisation‑wide culture and inclusion risks, develop interventions, and monitor impact across all country offices.
• Serve as a strategic partner to People & Culture leaders, ensuring global coherence while allowing regional adaptation.
• Manage and develop the Culture Advisor and DEI Manager, fostering an enterprise‑wide change approach.
• Collaborate with Country Directors, affinity groups, and managers to promote belonging, leadership accountability and equitable practices.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience leading culture, DEI or people‑focused programmes in a global, matrixed organisation.
• Strong ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive organisational change.
• Demonstrated experience managing teams and delivering data‑driven results.
• Excellent communication skills and a deep commitment to inclusive leadership.
