Intern - Risk Management and Business Continuity Unit

About the role

The United Nations Secretariat is recruiting an intern for its Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Unit, which supports risk communication and awareness across UNECA. The internship lasts about six months and is remote, under the direct supervision of a designated supervisor. It focuses on producing communication products and knowledge resources on risk and resilience.

Key responsibilities

• Risk communication framework and toolkit: help prepare a Risk Communication Guide, a stakeholder and audience map, and standard templates such as risk briefs, FAQs and key messages.
• Risk awareness and engagement products: contribute to a Risk and Resilience Pulse/Insight bulletin and help develop and pilot a Risk Blog, including 2-3 initial articles.
• Sustainability and knowledge management: organize a repository of approved risk communication materials on the ERM SharePoint/intranet, build a three-month editorial calendar, and compile an end-of-assignment handover package.
• All products use approved information, are reviewed by the supervisor and, where applicable, the Communications Section.

Required profile

• Student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or having completed a Master's or PhD programme.
• Fluency in spoken and written English; knowledge of French or another UN official language is an advantage.
• Experience drafting newsletters, articles, briefs, presentations or awareness materials is desirable; a background in communication, journalism, PR, risk management or related fields is desirable.
• Candidates must cover their own travel, visa, accommodation and living costs; no fee is charged by the UN.
