Laboratory Manager – Medical Laboratory Operations

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Medical Laboratory Technologist to lead the establishment and operation of a state-of-the-art medical laboratory in Addis Ababa. The Laboratory Manager will provide strategic direction, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive high-quality patient care across all laboratory services.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategies to expand diagnostic services, integrate new technologies and digital health solutions.
• Design, implement and monitor laboratory policies, quality control programs and compliance with international and national standards.
• Oversee daily laboratory workflow, equipment lifecycle, procurement, maintenance and calibration.
• Manage the Laboratory Information System (LIS/LIMS) to guarantee data integrity, security and efficient reporting.
• Recruit, train, mentor and evaluate laboratory staff while fostering a culture of safety and excellence.
• Prepare and control departmental budgets, monitor financial performance and optimise resource utilisation.
• Handle inventory management of consumables and supplies and produce regular operational performance reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related scientific field.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, including at least 4 years in a management or supervisory role.
• Proven experience in clinical laboratory operations within healthcare institutions.
• Familiarity with ISO‑certified environments and healthcare regulations.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication abilities.
