Programme Finance Officer – Ethiopia

About the role

We are looking for a proactive Programme Finance Officer to join The Donkey Sanctuary’s team in Addis Ababa. The role will ensure that our local partners in Ethiopia comply with The Donkey Sanctuary’s financial policies and donor requirements, while providing technical support to strengthen their financial reporting and management.

Key responsibilities

• Review partner financial reports together with programme teams to verify compliance with TDS and donor standards.
• Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date partner financial records and provide guidance on best practices.
• Support internal and external audits, follow up on audit recommendations and investigate any suspected fraud or irregularities.
• Conduct financial monitoring visits (annual, bi‑annual and ad‑hoc) alongside programme staff.
• Assist partners in preparing financial proposals, donor reports and monthly QuickBooks reports.
• Contribute to the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the Finance & Administration Manager.

Required profile

• First‑degree qualification in Accounting or Business Administration.
• Minimum five years’ experience in grant management within an INGO.
• At least two years’ experience building the capacity of local partner organisations.
• Strong written English and report‑writing abilities.
• Legal right to live and work in Ethiopia and willingness to travel regionally.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks and PeachTree.
• Competent IT skills for data analysis and reporting.
• Experience in financial reporting, budgeting and audit support.
• Knowledge of grant management processes and partner financial oversight.

What we offer

• Permanent full‑time contract (37.5 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, 08:30‑17:00).
• Salary of 1,931,509 ETB per annum.
• Office based in Addis Ababa, Bole Sub‑City, with regular regional travel.
